After I wrote StitchMinder, I got a ton of very positive feedback from knitters all over the world. Many, many of you asked, "how can I store counters for different projects?" You might say that KnitMinder was born out of this request and that counters are the heart of this new program.

In KnitMinder, each project has a little StitchMinder embedded in it for counting rows and repeats. There is no limit to the number of counters that you can add to a project, and you can also delete counters that you are no longer using. Here's what a couple of simple counters look like.

To increment a counter, simply tap on the light grey area behind the number. You can undo a counter if you have to frog by double-tapping on that same area. Deleting a counter is done the same way as deleting a mail message: you swipe your finger from left to right and a "delete" button appears. You add counters by touching the plus button in the upper right corner of the screen.

Counters can be named and can optionally start from a number and count up or down. To set these features, you tap on the grey "Edit" button to view this screen:

Let's say that you wanted to set up a counter that started at 24 and counted backward to zero. In the Edit Counter screen, change the "Ascending" switch to "off" and enter "24" in the starting count field, then select a name for the counter and you're done! When you touch the "Counters" button at the upper left of the screen, you will be returned to the Counters screen with your new, backwards counter.

Counters are simple, but I think you're going to wonder how you got along without them!

Counter names

Is it possible to have custom names for a counter, or must I choose from the names in the list only?

Thanks.

Re: Counter names

The current version of the app does not support custom counter names, but I realize that this is an important feature and will be adding it to the next major release.

counters

I can't set a counter to start with a 3 digit number. Stitchminder does it fine but I would rather be using knitminder at this point.

thanks

entered in the issue tracker

I've commented on this problem in the issue tracker here: http://www.quilt2go.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=41

I was able to enter a three-digit number for a starting count in KnitMinder, but after doing that and returning to the list of counters, the new counter was set to zero. I hit the Edit button again, then hit Reset Counter, which set the counter to the three-digit number I entered. I'll fix this in the next release. Thanks for reporting the bug!

Idea for counter

I'd like to see a counter for the time spent on a project. People always ask me how long something took to do, and it'd be nice to note it somewhere.
