I finished up the programming tasks for the next release of KnitMinder yesterday. I still need a couple more days of testing before I submit to Apple for approval, but in the meantime I thought I'd post about the new features in this release to get everyone fired up!

Several people have written to me asking for a wider range of base colors for yarns and a better way of organizing colors than just listing them by name. In KnitMinder 1.2, I have added over 30 new base colors and reworked the color list so it is sorted by hue. The list also has a swatch next to the color name to make it easier to spot the color you need quickly.

Here are some screenshots of the color list that show all of the colors available in 1.2:

color list 1color list 1
color list 2color list 2
color list 3color list 3
color list 4color list 4
color list 5color list 5
color list 6color list 6
color list 7color list 7

Let me know if I missed your favorite color and I'll add it to the list!

Never mind the first question

Never mind the first question about adding a picture to the projects page. I found it. I knew I should have spent a little bit more time with the app before I asked.

Knit minder

I just bought your knitminder yesterday. I have a couple of more inquiries about your product.
1. Do I have the capability to add a photo to the projects section? I don't see where I can do that.
2. I don't get why the yarns are not classified by the industry standard of lace, fingering, sport, dk, worsted, aran etc like they are in Ravelry. I am finding it confusing which category I want to use at a glance.
3. I like that you are updating the color choice. I have a lot of teal, aqua and turquoise that is not a choice currently.
4. When you are in the notes section under yarn, patterns, there is no way to get rid of the keyboard when finished, or if you hit into the notes section by accident too!
Do you have a rough idea of when the update will be out?
Thanks!

First of all, thanks for purchasing the full version of KnitMinder! Remember that you can use the contact form on this web site to get direct support via email as well as posting in the forums.

A1: The photo displayed next to the project is the most recent photo from that project's logbook. This question has come up a couple of times, so I've added it to the FAQ here.

A2: KnitMinder supports both conventional (fingering, sock, sport, DK, etc.) and standard (0-Lace, 1-Super Fine, etc.) yarn weights. It sounds like you are seeing the standardized weights and want to switch to the conventional system. Follow the instructions in the FAQ here to open the Settings app and change which weight system is displayed.

A3: Thanks! I originally envisioned the base color field as sort of a broad grouping, but it became clear from talking to knitters that are using the app that they wanted more choices here. Let me know if there are any colors you would like me to add in a future version.

A4: The update that I submitted this weekend fixes the problem of not being able to get rid of the keyboard in the yarns, patterns, and needles sections. Apple usually takes about a week to review updates, so I expect that it will be approved and available for download early in the week of June 8th. The caveat here is that Apple also has their yearly developer conference that week, so I'm not sure if that will affect their ability to review apps. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for next week!

Thanks!
