How to update to OS 3.0
While the KnitMinder 1.2.1 update that fixes the bug in the yarns and needles section winds it's way through Apple's approval queue, there is another way to get KnitMinder up and running today: upgrade to the new version of the iPhone and iPod touch operating system that was released last week. Here's how:
- On your computer, launch iTunes and plug in your iPhone.
- Select your iPhone under "Devices".
- Sync your phone so you have a backup of your data. The upgrade process will completely erase everything on the phone, but you get it all back by syncing after the upgrade is complete.
- Once the sync is done, click "Check for Update". You should be prompted to download and install the 3.0 OS update. This process will take about 15-30 minutes depending on the speed of your internet connection.
- After your phone has updated, press the "Sync" button to restore all of your music, contacts, mail, and other data. This is also a lengthy process depending on how much data you have on your phone.
You should also review the backup and restore instructions on Apple's web site here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
