How about an increase/decrease calculator?

First of all, kudos on the Stitch Minder! It was like you guys read my mind or something. However, what would be _really_ useful (even for those of us who are mathematically-minded) would be an app that could automatically calculate how to split up your increases and decreases when the pattern blithely says "Inc from 37 st to 64 st in the following row" (or something equally hairy). I have spent far too much time counting little marks on paper, trying to get fairly even separation for my increases/decreases ("k4, M1, k4, M1, k3, M1..." repeat x times etc.) It seems like something that should be fairly easy to calculate automatically, given the proper inputs, and you could probably even add it as an option on the Stitch Minder. (I'm sure everyone will want both.)

Keep it up! This is great!

This sounds like a great idea, and it shouldn't be too hard to program. Do you have any examples of egregious patterns that I can use to help design the app?

Well the current pattern I'm working on wants you to increase from 142 stitches to 162 stitches evenly in one row so that you can change your cabling pattern...

Hope this helps!

Other examples from the same pattern (it's translated European, can you tell?):

- Increase from 86 st to 114 st evenly in one row.
- Decrease from 130 st to 98 st evenly in one row.
- Decrease from 82 st to 62 st evenly in one row.

Now, in most of these cases, there are edge stitches that are meant to be left out, so the last two aren't too terrible (they're basically 3/4 decreases, as I recall), but it still would be nice to have a calculator that could figure this out automatically.

Thanks so much for looking into this!

Cheers,

just wondering if you had considered adding an increase/decrease calculator to KnitMinder. Also, any idea on the ETA? Months? Weeks? I sounds fabulous, and I can't wait!

I still think the increase/decrease calculator is a great idea, and I've added it to the feature request list in the issue tracking system. I want to get the first version of the program released as soon as I can, then start adding new features. I was planning on submitting it to Apple in early March, but my day job heated up for the past couple of weeks and I haven't had time to finish testing. I'll put a big fat announcement on the front page of this site and will also post a notice on Ravelry when it's available.

Thanks again for the suggestion and your patience!
